What is a Denture?

You probably think of full dentures when you hear the word “denture” by itself. The base of full dentures is made from a gum-colored acrylic that sits on the gums and blends in with the surrounding tissue. The teeth themselves will be carefully designed so that they look natural in relation to the rest of your face and mouth. At night, you should remove your dentures to give your gums a chance to rest.

What is a Partial Denture?

A different kind of denture may be needed if you only have a few gaps that need to be filled. Partial dentures – sometimes simply called partials – support any number of false teeth that have been spread along the base so that they perfectly fit between your real teeth. The restoration is usually held in place with metal clips or brackets.

Implant-Supported Dentures and Partials

Do you not want to have to worry about denture adhesive or metal clips being attached to your remaining teeth? There’s another way to secure dentures in your mouth: dental implants. Made of titanium and placed in the jaw during surgery, implants can be used to replace any number of teeth. Dentures that are anchored in place this way do not slip while chewing or talking, meaning your new smile will stay completely secure at all times.
