Community Involvement – Hamburg, NJ
Making the World Smile Brighter
At Hamburg Family and Cosmetic Dental Group, we appreciate being part of this amazing community, but we also know that there are many here and abroad who need help. That’s why we strongly prioritize giving back in any way we can. For example, in the past we’ve regularly supported several PTOs including those at Hamburg and Hardyston as well as the One Step Closer Animal Shelter (OSCAR). In addition, we’ve contributed dental supplies, clothing, and footwear to local drives for those who are impoverished in our community.
Dr.Kurian went to Guatemala in 2017 and again in 2018 with her son. The first visit was to Mixco and the following year was to Guatemala city. She worked with a great team of dental and non-dental volunteers from around the world who shared the same desire as her: to help people and to give access to dental care to the underserved population. They created a dental clinic with almost 15 modified dental chairs, equipment, compressors, suction, abundance of dental and non dental supplies within a matter of hours in a church basement under pouring cold rain. The local people were extremely hospitable. The local dentist was a great help amongst the other local volunteers. The local Mayor hosted dinner for the volunteers one evening after a long worthwhile day. Local school kids entertained them with local songs. The Mayor's family was present at the clinic almost every day to show their gratitude. It was so heartwarming to see the local volunteers during Dr.Kurian's trip the following year as they remembered each other. It was a feeling of seeing long lost friends. Even with a language barrier, the expression of pure humanity shared was priceless. This makes Dr.Kurian want to continue doing her part in the coming years. It was a great experience for her son who will also join her on her next trip. Here are a few snippets of her visits to beautiful Guatemala.
